This is the vehicle I will do , the kit will be pretty much straight out of the box,I will also use the Moroe Perdue waterwheel mini diorama as a base and a figure ( I'm sorry I do not know what make the figure is as I've had it for a few years but it came in a little black box !)

I have made a limited start , I built up the basic suspension but left it articulated so that I could make all the wheels touch the base ,I have also done some tyre damage on the tyre edges with a scalpel , I hope to do a winter scene with snow on the ground and a whitewashed vehicle but this plan may change !

more to follow . . . .

Brian's build Aufklarungspanzer 38(t) updated 27/04/09 Empty Excellent start Brian

Post  Jenny Ryan Tue Jan 27, 2009 12:17 pm

I never thought of it before but I can see the waterwheel with icicles formed on the paddles now ! The translucent blue of opaque frozen water .

Ooooooh now I want to make a snow angel , it is soooo hot here ! Cool

Sorry back to the build , I have pictures of the prototype of this vehicle with the upper hull made of wood with the rivets actually painted on !

I suppose there is a fair amount of interior visible with the Hanglefette turret ?

Brian's build Aufklarungspanzer 38(t) updated 27/04/09 Empty Waterwheel

Post  Highlander Tue Jan 27, 2009 1:03 pm

Yup ,that's the kind of thing I'm aiming for , when I first saw the waterwheel I thought of it frozen up ,maybe not quite so much ice Laura ! , I have some snow stuff that Hugo Luyten sent me (he used it on his Dumvee dio ) so I've been looking for an excuse to use it .we'l see how it goes ,Jenny ,I wouldn't moan about it being too hot ,it's wet and cold and horrible here Sad

Brian's build Aufklarungspanzer 38(t) updated 27/04/09 Empty Track links

Post  Highlander Fri Feb 06, 2009 1:59 am

Hi Laura

yes you are probably right about the number of links , I wanted them quite tight as most of the winter photos show the track run tighter looking ,maybe it is the cold contracting them ,I don't know, but I just thought that it looked better this way ,I am working away from home this week so not much progress ,|I have added the kink in the fender and made sure the hull front fits ok but apart from that not a lot done ,I'm pretty much doing an out of the box build though .

best wishes

Hi Brian
I must admit that little water wheel base caught my eye when I first saw it...pretty cool. Say, do you happen to know exactly what Hugo gave you for the snow? I'd really appreciate some WIP of your snow/base work. I've got a winter scene on tap that I looking for all the tricks I can get.

Thanks....oh btw, the Refectory is still here.

Cheers,
Rick

Post  Shaggy Fri Feb 06, 2009 6:23 am

I wanted to get that Monroe Perdue base when I first saw it, but it was a bit small for the vehicle I wanted to put on it. The 38t chassis looks like the perfect fit! I can't wait to see this all finished, especially if you do the frozen waterwheel!

Hi Brian,
The Monroe Perdu base is really nice. I like very much and I think I'll use it for one of my projects. The photo posted by Laura is superb. If you achieve that effect in your paddle wheel the base will be fantastic.
On the other hand, I also think this track need one link more but it your taste and decision. Go on, Brian!

Happy modelling

Brian's build Aufklarungspanzer 38(t) updated 27/04/09 Empty Interior paintwork update

Post  Highlander Sat Feb 07, 2009 11:32 pm

I started to do some interior painting , I want a vehicle with the worn look of an Eastern front winter ,always damp and cold and dirty ,some oil washes and chipping ,not a lot will be seen through the turret so I'm not doing any detailing ,I'll be happy if it looks ok through the turret grills

This is really looking good. I really like what you have done to the side walls. It looks lived in, but not 300 years old like some do with their weathering.
I was a little curious as I'm about to start on the tracks of my Dragon Marder, did you have any difficulties or problems with the tracks? I've read on the net that several others said they were very loose and hard to get a good sized run together.

Thanks for your comments all

I did not have any trouble with the tracks Gary , I think I have put in one link less than was recommended but I wanted a fairly tight run ,I built then in runs of about 20 ,then just bent them round to shape and joined them up on the vehicle .

Upper Hull superstructure now in place (not the best fit in the world I have to say) , I think it looks suitably lived in now ,I may add a few personal items that I can paint up and slip in later ,It is an enjoyable project though ,I'm looking forward to the hairspray whitewash ! Twisted Evil

Brian's build Aufklarungspanzer 38(t) updated 27/04/09 Empty A little more progress

Post  Highlander Sat Feb 14, 2009 3:46 am

Thanks you for your kind comments Bob.

I have added the fenders (including the infamous "kink" ) , this is probably one of the worst fitting Dragon kits I have built , the engine cover fit is bad , the tool clamps are vague (I did not replace anything as I really don't want to get involved in a huge correction/improvement thing when i have so many things on the go at once !) ,I'm just trying to do any major fit issues and hopefully leave it looking half decent ! ,It is a cool vehicle and really worthy of spending some extra time on .Anyway ,tools are on ,some boxes ,fenders .Not a huge amount left to do on the hull ,exhaust and some stowage and detailing .I'm just trying to work out what order to do things before painting .

Brian

Hi Jen

Not quite an S tank but similar design ,given my madness for anything German ,big and heavily armed this ticks all the boxes , It is a paper panzer based on an E100 running gear in braille scale ,I'm just going to paint it for Cromwell alongside my other stuff .should be fun ,I'm thinking splinter and zig zags Twisted Evil

Post  Highlander Sun Feb 15, 2009 4:46 am

More 38t woes !

The stowage boxes that come with the kit are too wide and overhang the sides when they should be flush with the fender edge so I had to cut and narrow the width of the boxes and add a new rib , the spare track bracket on the front upper hull cannot be used as the track is thicker than the bracket due to the uparmoured plate on the lower hull pushing it out so I just left it empty ,locating holes for the aeriel pot and fire extinguisher are HUGE and need filled or you end up with a gap all the way around the locating pin sigh , I don't know what got into Dragon with this one , I hollowed out the exhaust a bit and gave it a coat of Mr Surfacer ,hopefully the worst is over ,the turret looks like a lot less hassle .
