okok - i drilled out holes, there where needed inserted wire to simulate a nail (not visible in the pics!) and gave the holes some orangeish paint!

Ubi Caritas! FINISHED! - Page 7 Rostig10

Ubi Caritas! FINISHED! - Page 7 Rostig11

and since that happened what i had feared i won't touch the ruin anymore for further work! by accident - i didn't pay enough attention - i heard a loud and nasty *craaaaaaaack* while painting the holes and saw that i had pressed out the glass support of one window! i have been lucky and could fix that again but was close to a heart attack! pale

well ... and since i sat at the bench it is time to bring on the dying:

Ubi Caritas! FINISHED! - Page 7 Saerge11

Ubi Caritas! FINISHED! - Page 7 Saerge12

as you can see i didn't paint the inside of the cover of one of the coffins to show that i followed bob letterman's awesome wood simulating lesson and i'm very much impressed of the outcome! thanks bob!!! thank you so much buddy! Ubi Caritas! FINISHED! - Page 7 A010 Ubi Caritas! FINISHED! - Page 7 A050

now i have to motivate myself to carry on with the figgies!

jose, tony, noel, john - thanks a lot!

*sigh* ... "while the iron is hot hit the anvil" - so i did the splintercamo of the camo of one of my figgies! while doing the training splinters on a piece of paper i had full control and they looked correct ... else on the figure but whatever ... this is my second ever splinter camo so i leave the zeltbahn how it is ...

Ubi Caritas! FINISHED! - Page 7 Splitt10

Ubi Caritas! FINISHED! - Page 7 Splitt11

for reference i used those pages:

http://www.mp44.nl/equipment/zelt.htm

http://www.kamouflage.net/camouflage/00002.php

http://www.zeltbahn.net/wh_camo.htm

and regarding the "out of scale" gas mask canisters from verlinden i was quite surprised that they don't seem to be out of scale but instead verlinden used the bigger sized long variation gas mask canisters (just to show some fairness!): http://www.mp44.nl/equipment/gas_mask.htm

I love the splinter camo, now what you need to do is glaze the figures camo with some darker shades in the folds & lighter shades on the crests of the cloth , the only thing so far is to add the normal shading .

Some how I missed seeing the coffin update before Very Happy , I am glad you like them .

i'm still working on this one ... while the figures are close to be finished (pics some time later!) i started with the base for the dio!

this is the first impression after the first run of puttying, sanding and staining - more layers and sealing will follow!

Pheww! Eleven pages of pure modelling pleasure. I'm exhausted Smile

The Marder is simply superb. Very nice job on the building phase and the paintjob bring it to life in an amazing way. Small question: I know the rim of the wheels should be on metal because of the tracks teeth but I'm not sure about the rivets?

The figures are topnotch in my book. Nice detailling and the paint is really good. I wouldn't be too bothered about the splinter camo. Like others said macro photos make every little annoyance pop-up but they are rarely seen with the good old Mk.I eyeballs Laughing

The church is another goodness. I particularly like the work you did on the interior. And that guy thing (nails) is a nice bonus and add to the realism.

Noe that I'm up to date it will be easier to follow this one Laughing

You've even planned the base! And I'm still half way through my build!

I can see that the base is deep. Are you leaving it slightly sunk-in or you're going to fill it all up to the brim?

richard - what rivets? on the roadwheels? well - either an accident by me or the driver didn't pay attention and drove into an obstacle! i opt for solution number 2! Wink

here's the frame i was talking about! i let this dry now, then sand it and after that another round of staining! that frame will later be cut to fit the uneven ground of the diorama!

You've made some fantastic progress since I last stopped by here. Good on ya! (More than I can say for me Sad ) The nails in the church roof turned out perfect. I love watching the various layers of paint and details go on. Each taking the model to the next level of greatness. cheers

Laura -

Wonderfully done. The details are superb and shows the level of efforts. The figure is excellent and I know how hard it is to do a convincing 'splinter' scheme, which you've done extremely well. What did you use for the helmet netting? Can't wait to see this all come together.

As modellers we even have to be carpenters! I like your wood-work! And I also like the raised terrain.

You know? I really am curious about how you're gong to arrange the scene. I can see a church, coffins, a german in splinter-camo....... scratch

Great work Laura. The church ruin is getting real "creepy", clever idea with the wall paintings. The splinter cammo looks great as well.

thanks peter and erik! Very Happy

well ... we got a finished base - the varnish is in the drying stage ... maybe i'll add another coat tomorrow - depends on my mood for doing this! in parallel i am doing the groundwork and when the base is dried i will insert the painted and prepped groundwork for the final steps! then it's finishing the figures and we are through with this one and i can proceed to the next! (and maybe finish the whippet finally! Rolling Eyes )

oh well ... dioramabuilding really isn't my favorite part of modelling!

further progress but still a very long road to go ... redoing the part where the tracks have banged up the ground (lost under all the earth!), tone variations on the ground, the two graves, painting some stones, blending the church into the ground (it's glued in place in these shots!), rubble, rubble and more rubble, giving the interior floor the lichen treatment, adding grass to some spots, trying to simulate wet spots, redoing parts of the stained glass, finishing the figures at last ... etc.etc. ... oh my! Rolling Eyes
