Erik's Build - 7,62 PaK 36 (r) (Sd.Kfz. 132)- Marder II D
Hi
Despite a increasing number of non-finished building projects and the limited modelling time I have at my disposal, I cant help joining this group build.
I'm gonna build Alan's Marder II D, which tmk is the only manufacturer doing this vehicle. I think I'm gonna use K59's resin update set, and maybe some Friuls.
What's the deadline?
regards
\Erik

Yes! The Marder II D rocks!
Erik-
Even though the Alan kit is rough, the K59 set makes up for it, a superb resin kit in every sense. I built one a couple of years ago. Get the Eduard photo etch if you want the rear to be screened in instead of solid. Personally, I like the screened version much better.
Good luck and can't wait to see some pictures!

Rick I know but I guess you'll always feel short of time.
Yeah Bob, if it wasnt for the K59 upgrade, I dont think I'd have choosen this kit. Is Eduard the only vendor making PE for the Alan Marder II?

AFAIK eduard is the only game in town. The set is pretty respectable, though, and the etching on the screens is top notch. Also, beware of the fender supports(on the kit), they are left over the Panzer IID, the marders did not have these, so they need to be removed.

Not really an update...but still
Hi
Finally I recieved all the stuff I plan using on this build. I chose the Modelkasten track set instead of the Friul model ones. The K59 update set is just superb in any aspect.

Okay, now you have to start building right away! This was always one of my favorites, I always like seeing these built up, and it is a good challenge, too.
Did you decide on a paint scheme yet? Those big, empty side panels just cry out for a nice camo scheme, or a winter white wash!
Good luck and happy building!

Hi
Thanks for looking.
Jenny the Eduard set is fair, I'll post some scans when I get to it.
Bob I was actually thinking on doing a plane dark yellow on this one, as it would be a great base for practicing some modulation style stuff.

Well, to each his own. Monotone yellow will be a real challenge, but I'm sure it will look really cool
Can't wait to see it started, I think you're going to make me take another crack at this beastie, I'm not very satisfied with my first attempt.

PE fenders for ALAN's panzer IID
Hi
I finally got back to be doing some modelling. Now I have had a look on the fender supports that Bob mentioned and which should be removed. However I'm not to sure I'll be able to remove them with a pleasable result. So does anybody know if PE fenders are aviable for this kit/hull?
In advance Thanks
Erik

erik - eduard has a set with fenders for the icm panzer 2 ausf. d - ed35408
maybe those fit with a little bit of reworking them?
i also searched for aber and voyager but didn't find any set for the panzer 2/marder 2 ausf. d!
(discussion purpose only!)

Thanks Laura, although these fenders has a blank strip where the fender support should sit, so this is what I end up with removing them from the Alan kit. I'll see if I can get my hands on some antiskid plades or else I'll just leave it as it is.

Had a visit to your thread, Erik.
I have the Tamiya kit (still unbuilt)..... You have all the gear to upgrade and correct any imperfections in the Alan kit might have. I just love the ugly shape of this vehicle! Can't wait to start mine!
I like the plane Dark Yellow!
Is it possible to see some pics of the build....please I look forward to see this one!
Regards
Noel

Re: Erik's Build - 7,62 PaK 36 (r) (Sd.Kfz. 132)- Marder II D
Thanks for dropping by Noel.
Sorry for not posting any progress pics yet, I simply haven't had the time, but I'll get to it. And regarding all the extra stuff I'm awaiting the ICM Marder IID kit, and hopefully the sprocket and idler wheels of this kit is of better quality. Furthermore I got hold on a sheet of Antiskid plate from Lion roar and I'll try to scratch build the fenders.
Noel when you say "I have the Tamiya kit" do you mean that Tamiya does a Marder II D kit as well?

Hi Erik,
Sorry I did not explain in detail! I have the Tamiya Marder III and also the Marder III M. I wish to make all the versions and would like to get Dragon's Marder II and III H. I'll watch your build and see what this kit offers! Maybe I'll be tempted to get it if still available!
I built the Alan Bison II http://tanksandthings.niceboard.org/tanks-diorama-wip-f2/bison-ii-afrika-last-2-figures-ready-t129.htm but had quite a few corrections to make!
I'll watch with interest if you will go for scratch building the fenders.
Regards
Noel

Left fender removed...
Hi
Just a small update
I took the plunge and removed the left fender.
My only worry was how to reproduce the support flange. However this feature is not to find on the scale drawings, so I'll omit them, lucky me .
However the scale drawings show 21 bolts on each fender, so I'll have to do them instead
Hope to post more progress soon

Good surgical cutting there!
Good to see you on the workbench! The scratch building of the fenders will probably prove time consuming but I'm sure it will be well worth it in the end!
So keep it up Erik! I look forward see the fender building phase!

you sarted this epic project of turning a chunk of plastic into a jewel (well an ugly jewel but a jewel!!!)! that makes me very happy!
the plain yellow is just perfect for this vehicle ... strange - plain grey wouldn't look so good on this one! the first time i believe that yellow looks better than grey on a german vehicle!
