StuG III Ausf B 1/48
I’m going to build a Tamyia 1/48 StuG B. The kit looks good in the box, not too many bits and the best part is the plastic is moulded in German Grey therefore I won’t need to paint it.

Hiya John:
Your already a month behind, so lets not waste any more time. Lets see some glue meeting the plastic. . This should be a cool one to watch, as I have Tamiya's bigger version of this sittin around somewhere about two thirds built. Ohhh, and just one little question. What the heck is a "Caboolture" ?

Re: StuG III Ausf B 1/48
This is where I’m at so far. This little kit is great, no parts clean up and everything fits nicely, wish some of the other kits I’ve built went together as easily as this. I went and bought some little men to go with the kit.
Gary, Caboolture is a northern suburb of Brisbane (although the residents of Caboolture consider it to be a town). We get their rag dumped on our lawn once a week for free so I though why not use it for something useful.

Cool looking StuG John, which campaign you placing this one in? Those figures look good too, I had no idea that Tamiya were being this prolific in this scale, nice to see that they've included a figure pointing at something, wouldn't be a Tamiya figure set without someone pointing

Because I got so many figures in the “Infantry on Maneuvers” box I think I’ll try a small dio, therefore I will definitely require a second StuG!!!!

Re: StuG III Ausf B 1/48
Both the StuGs are built to about the same stage, still a bit to go. Does anyone know where to get 1/48 diorama stuff, preferable in Australia?

Hiya John:
Looking good so far. This should be a real nice diorama when you are done. For the smaller scale stuff I usually just build up a base with foam, then coat with white glue and 1/48 scale sand, and 1/48 scale kitty litter .

Re: StuG III Ausf B 1/48
I have done a bit more on StuG No.2
Made a carry frame out of some old PE sprue.
The kit does not come with any extras eg. fuel drums / cans, spare track, wheels etc. For the stowage on the rear deck I am using 1/35 stuff for shape and I will put a tarp over it. Hope it turns out.

Re: StuG III Ausf B 1/48
Nice looking Stug there John.
I've often wondered if these 1/48 Tamiya kits were just pantos of the 1/35 ones but now think they are entirely new kits. Too bad there is no extra stowage in them. That was one of the things that Tamiya pioneered with a lot of their 1/35 kits - extra stowage.
What theater of operations will this diorama be based on?
Looking at the detil it's hard to guess that this is 1/48 scale and not 1/35... or larger.
I still need to figure out which 1/35 Stug kit will make a good basis for a Syrian Stug III on The Golan Heights.
Cheers

Re: StuG III Ausf B 1/48
Thanks for the comments Tankbuilder and JT.
I will probably use the kit decals for the StuG.Abt 192 Eastern Front 1941.
Here is StuG No.2 with some undercoat.

WOW! Love that undercoat! It looks a lot like the undercoat on the abandoned Golan Heights Syrian Stug I want to build. What did you use for that undercoat?
Thanks for sharing.

Re: StuG III Ausf B 1/48
Thanks Jenny.
After living through a few cyclones and floods when we used to live in NQ I made sure we bought a house on a hill when we moved to Brisvegas. Apart from losing power for 20hrs all was ok.
Tankbuilder I use Warhammer Chaos Black undercoat when I do dark coloured stuff. It's about $20 a tin but it lasts a long time.

Have completed the build on StuG #1 and put on some black undercoat. Am going away for work for a few weeks but will try and paint both tanks with Panzer gray when I get back.
