Alan Sig-33
I will be building the Alan 15cm SIG-33 heavy infantry gun. I have the Eduard etch set, a Elefant metal barrel coming and some spares box extras.

Hi Robert
Looking good there, although we're not looking to start this until October 1st.

Re: Alan Sig-33
ahh my first group build here got a little trigger happy I didn't see the start date. I haven't done anything to the kit yet so we're good. Since I have a little time maybe I'll try and find some of the resin steel type wheels or maybe something to tow it.

gun construction finished
I finished building the gun today, I am leaving the wheels off for now to make painting easier. I will start the sdkfz 10 that will haul it this week.

Re: Alan Sig-33
I don't have any build pics of the sdkfz 10, things have been a little crazy around here. I still have to do washes weathering and detail painting but I wanted to show everyone whats going on.

Re: Alan Sig-33
Hiya Robert:
Have you been taking speed building lessons from Pavel?
It is a mighty fine looking combination. I also gotta say that I really like the camo job on the SdKfz 10 .
I was also wondering if you are going to leave the Sig in the one color, or are you thinking of doing a similar camo to the SdKfz 10, or a camo job, but different pattern ?
Either way, it looks great so far.

Re: Alan Sig-33
Sweet looking Demag , I just adore your Cam scheme . IMHO I would leave the sig in that scheme as they were rarely painted at the same time as the HT's !

Re: Alan Sig-33
Thanks for the kind words, I've got the decals on this morning and hope to start weathering later today. I didn't plan on camo for the Sig 33 as I didn't find any pics of it other than dark yellow or grey. I would like to eventually make a dio but I've been holding off until I get better on figures.

Re: Alan Sig-33
I've done the decals, I'm not happy with the colors so I marked it as 90th Pz. Grenadiers in Italy and went with the idea that they used liberated Italian paint. I've also done some chipping, not sure if it is too much or not. Still lots to do, any comments or suggestions?

Re: Alan Sig-33
Hi Robert, some modellers would say it's too much chipping but not me. I like lots of wear and weathering, and the chipping looks real good to me. In fact I would probably add more to spots where the crew get in, but that's purely personel preference. Nice work!

Re: Alan Sig-33
That looks way sweet. And I wouldn't worry to much about the color of the camo. The camo colors (other than very very late in the war) were applied in the field. And because of that there were just about as many variations in depth, tone as there were camo jobs. Right now the only suggestions I might make are to paint the tracks , and dust dust dust. I find that a nice mist of a good dust tends to tone down a bright camo job, and kind of makes it "all one" kind of thing.

filters, tracks painted, more chips and some light pin washing. I've looked at it so much today painting it I'm not sure I can see the forest for the trees

Re: Alan Sig-33
I've done some shadowing and highlights to the Sig-33, how much chipping should I do? The pictures i found either show restored guns or old black & white photos where its hard to tell.

Hi Robert
I don't really know whether towed artillery would get as chipped as halftracks and tanks, I would guess so.
Looking good so far though.

Re: Alan Sig-33
The SIg-33 would get a fair amount of abuse John.
This was the largest Infantry Field Gun built by any nation during WWII, when everyone else was using the Mortar for infantry fire support. It had about half the range of the 10.5cm howitzers, which meant that it found itself closer to the action than other artillery.
