I recieved this bust from Andrew Cairns for this review. The bust came in a sturdy box sealed in a zip lock bag and bubble wrapped. There was no damage to the figure. Not bad considering he traveled from New Zealand to Ohio USA.


Now before I start just let me say that I know some have moaned and said, not another German bust. Or another Waffen SS bust. But I have a nice collection of bust and many Germans and all of them are different. Each one has his own personally. Or if you prefer different look. This one is no different. I enjoy bust no matter how many times the subject is done. And Mr. Cairns SS bust is another nice addition to my collection
The bust is done in grey resin and consist of three parts. The torso the hat and the base. There is also a piece of wire but more on that later.



The casting is quite clean. There is a slight seam down the back of the bust. This was quite easy to clean up. There were no air-bubbles or flash on my sample.








The detail was quite good on the bust. I will add eye brows as I feel the face is a bit bare without them. This is also not hard to do.



The fit of the bust to the base was very good. Also the hat fit quite well with a small bit of fill needed on one side. A very interesting thing done by Mr Cairns was not to mold the draw strings to the smock. Instead he gives you a small piece of wire to make the strings yourself. This will produce a nice 3-d look and gives you the chance to produce a nice sag yourself. Pretty cool idea and a frist on any bust I own. I found a sewing shop that had a nice thread that will work great and give the draw string texture.
The crush cap is also well done. Looks nice and worn. The skull is also rendered well. As is the patch on the peak.

There are no instructions or painting guides included. There is the box art painted by A. Cairns. Instructions are no problem and as for a painting guide well this just makes you do a little research. Which I think is a good idea as it gives you a chance to find your own camo pattern to use. Besides research is a good way to learn more about your subject and the uniforms they wear. Which can carry over to other eras.





I like this bust. I think A. Cairns will continue to improve with each new release. Check out his line of bust and figures as he is doing some interesting subjects and nice work.
