Well it is real big , 1:35th scale , and coming out soon , I would probably be more inclined to build a beasty like this than any other aeromaplane !

My Dad built these during WWII, so this will be a must-have for me.

Oh kewl Simon , tell me , did they ever have any reuse value or were they treated as a single use thing ?

Apparently they were incredibly basic in construction. My late Father was a Master Cabinet Maker and not an Engineer, and these things were very low tech.
Other than the simple instrumentation, there was little worth salvaging.

I forgot to mention, Dad also built the Hotspur gliders that they trained the flight crews in, as well as the Hamilcar Tank carrying gliders.
Dad said that the flight crews were taken from the Airborne units and trained up, rather than waste Pilots already flying bombers or transports.
I'll try scanning a lovely picture Dad gave me. It's of an airfield in Leicestershire with the gliders and their tugs getting ready to go.

Oh great Simon ! I have seen one of these Horsas which came to rest in a hedgerow with its nose over a road . I know the Hamilcars carried jeeps and 75mm Howitzers , what tanks could they carry ? Vickers Mark VI ?

The British MkVII light tank - known as the Tetrarch, was used by 6th Airborne Division on June 6th. They carried the 2pdr, or the 3" Howitzer in the Close Support version.
The British also used some American M22 Locust light tanks for the Rhine Crossings. The M22 was equipped with a 37mm gun, and could hit 40mph on roads.
Ironically the US never used the M22, because they had nothing to carry it!

Re: Yes its a big aeromaplane coming soon from Masterbox
Great North Roads make some resin Horsa fuselage sections as diorama pieces, but they're quite heavy.

Oh Wow!
I'm going to have to persuade GF that we must buy that Dartmoor property with all the barns 'cos I'm going to need all that room.

I might actually be able to get some modelling done if I'm "forced" to take a snow day or three

I've just come in from making sure everything is secured because of the incoming gales.
What do you want to do with the barns Andy? They're brilliant if you've got a use for them, but nothing but a liability if you don't.

A multitude of uses. GF rather likes them and has some plans (ones not for discussion on this forum ). Other than the plans in her over-active imagination it'll be a place to work on elderly VWs including my current Scirocco and a bio-diesel plant for the daily drive.

Hi Folks
I managed to find this...
[img][/img]
In the foreground are Horsas and their Halifax tugs. The background shows some more Horsas dispersed with some Tank-Carrying Hamilcars.
The thing is I don't know where this picture was taken, anyone got any ideas?
