Road wheels, how I paint them.

I hate painting roadwheels. I'm sure most of you feel the same. So this might make life easier.
Background. I use some sanding pads that have a 1-2mm backing of spongy foam. I found them at the hardware store and they are stiff yet soft. One day I knocked over some tire paint and it soaked into the pad. Being in one of those moods that day I took a road wheel that was painted the chassis colour. Rolled it over the paint blotch. Well the result looked pretty good. So I did it again but with a tooth pick in the venter and while exerting some pressure and the paint went right up to the edge of the rim. I tried doing it again and again a nice even paint band. This was cool, and before I knew it I had all the road wheels done.
I told my buddy and he has been doing it ever since also. He went one step further and tried a shell. It gave him a perfect tip. I'll bet it would work for boots which you could then "stamp" onto a vehicle for foot prints. Hmm wonder if it will work for a (Jenny dont look) prop blade tips. (You looked didnt you)

This would work better if I had a painted wheel. Unpainted it seems to rub off a bit.

The method I'm using is a bit different and only possible with a airbrush.
I bought me a . . . . . . I don't know the English name
It's a plastic frame which we used in our school time to draw circles.

I first spray the wheel in the color i would like the ''tire'' to be.
Then I place the mask thing over the wheel and spray the center is the color you want.
Be careful that you clean the rear of the mask before you spray the next one because sometimes there is same paint on the back en you make stains on your wheel

I have also a few pics to make it more clearer

Hi Mark:

That is a great tip that I also have been using for a long time. It is a "circle template" here in the U.S. and is available in most stationary and craft stores. The best part of it is that with all the size choices you are pretty much guaranteed that you will get the right size for you road wheels, no matter what size they are. Also I would suggest that if you put down a couple of quick pieces of masking tape to cover the holes on all sides of the one you are using, it keeps the mess down a bit and keeps overspray from getting on the rubber portion of the roadwheel, and your fingers .

health any good by painting parts of your body. I know, you are probably
using Arctic paint.
