I'll do my best to do all the aftermarket stuff justice.

I'm allmost done with the left fender, only thing to do is to add the side flange at the rear fender. I'll omit the front side flange, as this was seen on some vehicles (and it'll spare me some time). So far it's only dryfitted.


The attachment of the inside of the fender to the hull will be a challenge for sure.


As far as I can see from the picture below the fenders wasn't bolted, so no bolts on the fenders .

too bad that lazdos is not active at the moment - that bolt on fender or not is an issue where he would be badly needed (and raw meat thrown towards him anyway! )

Laura: Yes Lawrence's knowledge would come in handy here.

I did a comparison between the sprocket wheel of the ICM and the Alan kit.


Now the diameter is the same of the 2 wheels but the size of the teeth is different, the teeth on the Alan one being almost twice the lenght as that of the ICM one.

This could turn out to be a problem regarding fitting with the tracks, but I really hope the ICM wheel will fit as it is the most accurate one.

The ICM sprocket looks even more crisp in detail, too. It would be good if you could fit the ICM ones.

Well I've now checked the fit of the Friul tracks (I intented to use the Model Kasten ones, but they annoyed me quite much) on the Alan and the ICM sprocket wheels. The fit is really good on the Alan one and decent on the ICM one, so I'll go for the ICM one now.

While moving on to the K59 turret I noticed that the gun saddle was warped .


Is it just me or isn't the piece warped??? (it might be diffecult to determine from the picture) but I'm pretty sure it's not straight.

I then got hold of another set, as I ruined some pieces of the first set .
It turned out that the gun saddle in this set was warped as well.


I have previuosly been suggested to dip warped pieces in hot water and then straightening them, but I'm not sure this will work with resin.
If anybody has any suggestions on how to solve this please come froward, I'm kinda desperate.

The dipping in warm water should work OK , Ive built loads of resin stuff and done this regularly , It also works for bending resin runs of track around a sprocket , make it pretty warm but not boiling and hold it in it for about a minute then just manipulate it into shape and hold it there until it cools ,it should hold the new shape . it might be worth making a plastic block to hold the sides of the cradle apart while you do it .

Would placing the bit in cold water help to speed the resin becoming rigid

Yes apparently it does, as this was what I was recommended to do by Peter Kwok from K59. But still I haven't been able to straightening it completely, but I'll keep trying.

Well I have been working some more on the Marder. I have reduced the width of the fenders as they where a little to wide. As seen in photos the side armor seems to exeed the fenders. But this was some difficult surgery and I ended taking off to much, so now the fenders are approx. 1mm to narrow. So the fender holder will have to be shortened correspondingly Of course I first saw this when I already attached the fenders, so I'll leave them as they are.


Furthermore the rear of the superstructure armor has been removed and replaced with the Eduard PE variant. I tried out the etch-grip as it seemed to be the right tpye of work, but I really didn't succeeded using it, so I just used plane superglue.


I'm almost done with the K59 turret replacement. I managed to straighten the gun saddle by gently heating it with a heat gun. I know that it might sound like harsh conditions, but boiling water just wasn't sufficient to make the resin workable. Peter from K59 offered to send me a new one btw, so great service from them.

Gee the gun looks sweet , it is a really delicate assembly , I think the fenders look great really . That new mesh back end looks great , I am really impressed what you are doing with this kit !

You must be pretty happy with how it is all coming together too !

Knowing how troublesome an Alan kit could be I'd say that you are mastering this one with no difficulty at all. It is looking nicer by the minute!

Nice work so far , I've got to agree with Ruben , Allen kits need alot of attention as do some others.
You seem to be making out nicely with this build , the pe is well done as is the gun and cradle.

I'm afraid I'm not going to finish the Marder in time. I've packed all my modelling stuff in boxes, since I havent done any modelling the past 2 months. I totally lost the motivation, maybe due to the marder, and definitely because I just dont have the time anymore. I hope to get back sometime at last I'l drop by now and then.

There's nothing wrong with taking a break. I just came off a fairly lengthy one. Take your time and I'd be surprised if the old modeling itch didn't come back. But I hope you continue to hang out here.
